FL - Flare 2014-10-24T21:09:08 -> 2014-10-24T21:42:09 xcen, ycen = 235,-309.7
Description: IRIS observes a GOES X3.1 flare in AR 12192, which was the largest AR since November 1990. The flare occurs within the first few frames of the observation and crosses the slit. The flare's brightness comes from two ribbons, which are roughly parallel. After formation, the two ends of the larger ribbon pivot downward in the image towards the coronal hole in the bottom left. However, some structure near the center of the larger ribbon prevents the central part of the ribbon from capping the coronal hole. This is clearly seen in 1330 Å and 2796 Å, however, 2796 ?Å shows faint absorption flows following the flare not easily visible in 2796 Å. In the spectrum Fe XXI shows broad emission near the flare's end.
